Training for Courage - Trainer Paul Dufresne and his Andalusian Stallions
Paul has been teaching people to train and relate to their own horses foryears on a much less commercial route than most. His Horse Passion has brought him to an interesting “Teaching blend” of Natural Horsemanship, Circensic Dressage (Classical Dressage/Trick Training), Reining (Vaquera/Western), and Liberty. If he could teach people to learn to understand how to communicate with their horses and lead them effectively we won't have such a turnover in horses and horse-owners as we are still seeing today. The key is to facilitate the journey by guiding them in as simple a manner as possible in a horse experience that will allow them to be a leader of their own personal flavor exploring their creative ability with their horse partner.
Hearts of the West
Four young, phenominal sisters that are true cowgirls with exceptional horsemanship skills. Kaitlynn, Sisko, Taylor and Korrie have grown up on horseback and over the past couple of years have developed a trick riding show that is packed full of speed and excitement. You will be amazed that these four sisters, from eight to thirteen years old, can be so in tune with their horses and each other! They are the only four sisters to develop such a show anywhere. They'll perform for you, carry your sponsor flags, turn back cattle and then compete in your rodeo events! Fantastic!
Langley Riders
The Langley Riders Mounted Drill Team are members of the Langley Riders Society. This is an organization that provides youth programming and community recreation through horsemanship for over 40 years. The drill team formed in 1966 and has represented Langley through out BC as a featured entertainment group at many events including the Langley Airport Canada Day Celebration, the P.N.E., Pemberton Equifest, Hastings Raceway, Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo and many others.
The team is comprised of a group of enthusiastic ladies ranging in ages from 16 and up, motivated and committed to the perfect performance. A fast pace drill team with speed maneuvers, make us a favorite at Rodeo grand entries and half time performances. As a club team, our ladies are all volunteers and our only motivation is for the thrill and excitement and to give back to our community a show with all the flash, speed and flair that makes this such an entertaining show. Any proceeds we do receive go back to our riding society for future programming funds.
Drill team is a group of riders working in unison to create a "dance" on horseback which we often see in parades or at horse related events. Unlike the slower line work done in parades, musical routines are done at a canter or lope and performed to a musical selection where an entire arena becomes our "dance floor". The routines can be done at a much faster pace of 3 to 5 minutes for opening ceremonies or grand entry. Longer programs are usually 9 to 12 minutes in length. This performance is a series of patterns or maneuvers choreographed into a full routine.
Terry A Scott
One of the first memories for me was a Saturday morning, early (my parents were still sleeping), a couple of girls brought a giant gray horse onto the air force base in Comox and were charging 10 cents a ride. I woke my parents as I absolutely had to get as near as possible to that animal and needed a dime to do it. From then on no matter what base we were stationed to I found horses to be near. Whether it was Saddlebreds, western games or just out-riding for a rental stable it didn’t matter horses were in my life for good. In 1988 with no discipline in mind I bought an appendix quarter horse from Seahorse Stables in Richmond, thus meeting Leslie Reid and starting a very short run at hunters. The horse was hot and like many jump riders I focused more on “the flat” for control, the dressage bug bit me, Leslie had decided to stop teaching jumping and so I started on the long road of learning to train horses. Still learning. I’ve been fortunate to ride many wonderful horses along the way. Artenstolz, owned by Wendy Christoff, to my Third Level USDF Bronze. Orion who has just competed at the Olympic Games I rode through First level before handing the reins up to Leslie. Several life time high scores with him in the early days, what a talent. My own 10 year old KWPN gelding Rosco, now a school master. Many personal accomplishments with some very difficult horses needing re-direction. I recently moved all of my students and horses in training to Greystone Stables in Ladner; we have a section of barn under my management named TopLine Dressage. I live in South Surrey with husband Dave and Prudence, the cutest Jack Russell Terrier you will ever meet. Competing with Santos at Third level this year with plans to move up to PSG spring of 2009 well on schedule of my goal for 2011 Pan Am games in Guadalajara Mexico. Santos is a 10 year old Westfalen gelding by Sir Scholling.
EDGAR EYZAGUIRRE (Izagarry)
Edgar is a master trainer and rider who was born in Lima Peru. Horses became a passion of Edgar’s at a very early age and as a young boy he spent much of his time with his Father who introduced him to many of the most famous and important breeders throughout Peru.
Edgar’s Father had a small farm about an hour from Lima and that is where the family began their pursuit of breeding the Peruvian Paso horse and it was also where Edgar’s interest in the history of the bloodlines of the Peruvian Paso began.
During his formative years Edgar had the opportunity to share time and learn from the best teachers in Peru and he began to develop his own methods of classical training of the Peruvian Paso horse. His training and persistence paid off in 1973 when Edgar won first place with “EL BARON” at the National Peruvian Horse Show in Lima Peru.
In 1970 Edgar moved to the United States where he has trained many state and National Champions. He has performed at Madison Square Gardens in New York and has continued his learning process with master trainer and childhood friend Herman Baca in Southern California.
In 2000 Edgar followed his dream and moved to Canada where he was the head trainer for Paradise Ranch at locations in Alberta and in B.C. Edgar has trained many Canadian Champions and has just returned from the Canadian National Championships with “AV ALMINDRA” where they were awarded CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS in the breeding mare division as well as the prestigious CONQUISTADOR CUP.
Recently, Edgar and business partner Suzanne Brown have begun their own ranch and Peruvian breeding program at RANCHO EL EDAN in Lumby, B.C. where they train and sell Peruvian Paso’s and give riding lessons to those who are interested in the breed.
If you have not been on a Peruvian Paso and would like to ride one under supervision please feel free to join Edgar and Suzanne at the Lundy’s house at 1447 Collins Road from 4-7pm today (Sunday September 7th). Come and learn more about the horse that is know to be the Rolls Royce of horse back rides. No experience necessary and you’ll be glad you tried them.
